The latest One Book, One Community book pick is My Antonia by Willa Cather. This classic novel tells the story of a family of Bohemian immigrants who create a home in the Nebraskan prairie. Its nostalgic style and character-driven plot absorbs the reader and brings the American West to life.
One Book, One Community is a Westmoreland Library Network program that encourages everyone in Westmoreland County to read the same book and engage in conversations about the book. My Antonia provides a chance to talk about nostalgia, the immigrant experience, and life in the American West.
Seventeen public libraries in Westmoreland County are participating in this round of One Book, One Community. Find a discussion near you.
As part of a partnership with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, participants will have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to the symphony’s spring concert, which features Aaron Copland‘s Appalachian Spring. Appalachian Spring tells the story of pioneers in Pennsylvania, when the western side of the state was still the frontier.
