Join the Murrysville Community Library and Recreation Department for another Rock Talks! presentation by Erik Selinger: “Credit Where Credit is Overdue: Recognizing the Contributions Made by Black Artists to the History of Rock Music.†Think Elvis was the King? Think again. Men and women of color laid much of the groundwork for what became rock and roll. And it’s well past time for them to get their due. We will recognize blues artists as far back as the 1920s, through “race recordsâ€, the “chitlin’ circuitâ€, and the early days of rock and roll, all the way up to the present day. We’ll listen to a raw, powerful song from Austin, Texas guitarist Gary Clarke Jr. about the racism he encountered as a child, and he’s only 39. So those who say “that happened a long time ago†should be prepared for an education. Recognize and Rock On! Register below or call the library at 724-327-1102.
